How's IncubationPlus different?
Conventional outsourcing models, like Fixed Price (FP) or Time and Material (T&M), are not suitable for an early stage start-up venture. They pose several limitations such as:
- Pick from bench against new hires
For a small assignment, involving 4-6 engineers, conventional outsourcing partners will not hire fresh as per your specific needs. They will
build the team from an existing pool of resources and try a best fit.
IncubationPlus Approach: We believe that every member of a start-up venture has to be a high performance individual and there is no scope
for "one size fit all" approach here. We do NOT maintain any bench and will hire new candidates as per your requirement. Every candidate will
be interviewed and qualified by you.
- Cost Optimization against better performance.
FP and T&M contracts work on "pyramid" team structure for cost reduction. Bottom of the pyramid has individuals with 1-2 years of
experience. Top of the pyramid has senior high performance team members. This arrangement leads to performance degradation as a large
part of your offshore team is either fresh from school or with minimal domain knowledge.
IncubationPlus Approach: No pyramids. Every member has to be as per the client needs with required years of experience in the specific
domain.
- Team strength against team quality.
Conventional outsourcing has become a numbers game. In both FP and T&M projects your outsourcing partner gains by maximizing the team
size. If the team is small, say 4-6 engineers and stays that way for a long time, in all probability your outsourcing partner will loose interest.
IncubationPlus Approach: We understand that every start-up has small beginnings and even a 4-6 member effective team could play that
critical role in making the start-up successful. We work ONLY with start-ups and set-up small teams for them. We prefer quality of work being
done against numbers.
- Defining SoWs against speed of execution.
A fixed price contracts will demand a clear unambiguous SoW to be written. SoWs can be very time consuming to create and require back and
forth negotiation over the course of the project. Do you want to spend time on SoW or would you rather get a productive team from day one?
IncubationPlus Approach: No SoW required. Define the skillset required and get going with the actual work as soon as the first person is on
board.
- Open option for captive office against permanent outsourcing.
Conventional outsourcing presents no option for you to take the team on your direct payrolls as and when you are ready to expand and set-
up an offshore R&D center. You are either stuck with the outsourcing partner or risk loosing all the team and hire fresh when setting up your
own direct subsidiary.
IncubationPlus Approach: We know that a start-up will have to scale-up operations to be truly successful. We also understand that at some
point of time it may make more sense for you to set-up your own direct subsidiary in India for reasons of better control. We will not only
assist you in setting up remote operations but also transfer all of your "virtual" team members to the new entity. There is no loss of human
intellectual assets and all the IPR developed continues to stay with your group.
- A "one-off" project execution vs. a long term vision.
Fixed Price or T&M models are at best to get a "one off" project executed. They do not help you to create any assets which can be of help in
the long run. Worst off, during FP or T&M project execution you do not even get visibility down to a level of each team member and hence can
not make a correct assessment on their individual performance.
IncubationPlus Approach: IncubationPlus is all about supporting a vision to set-up a subsidiary in the long run without having to invest
significant $$s in the early phases of the start-up. Here's how we make it happen:
(i) As and when you are ready to set-up your own operation, we will transfer a highly productive team from which any non-performing
candidate has already been pruned much earlier.
(ii) A proven team from day one acts like a catalyst to attract more talent from word of mouth. You save on hiring costs.
(iii) Capex for direct infrastructure can be fully justified since the remote team has been consistently delivering for quite some time.
(iv) Know-how transfer from Samadhan helps in forecasting opex burn and thereby better budgeting.
